Fuzzy!

Fuzzy passed away September of 2004. It was a very sad day.... But he lived a nice comfortable 3 years with me. He was given to me back in 2001 since the previous owner realized that he couldn't take care of him anymore. I like to think that I gave him a nice home and a life. He is truly missed....

These are just a bunch of pics that I took while he lived with me. Not really in chronological order but the ones with sand as a substrate are older. I later switched to rabbit pellets (alfalfa pellets) and it ended up working pretty good.

During the summer, because of more sunlight, he used to show more coloration. It's hard to capture this on film but here's 2 that I think shows the nice orange tint off well

The pictures below are from the original Fuzzy page.

The first picture after moving to his new home. Awwwwww

A set of 3 new pics. Usually, every other day or so Fuzzy and I get to spend, what I think is, quality time..... Took a few pictures of him perched on the side of my computer desk looking around and..*ahem*...admiring my taste in my windows background picture.... Of course, about 5 minutes after these pics were taken he was with me on the couch where, as per usual, after a few minutes, his desire to test to see if he's evolved into a bird yet took over and I had to put him back in his tank... Oh well...

The new tank setup. I switched from sand to alfalfa pellets (rabbit food) for ease of cleaning and lack of dust (though the smell I'm still getting used to....not upleasant but very distinct), got a new perch and moved stuff around a bit. He seems to be okay with it though these pictures are taken right after he stopped squirming and clawing at the glass...crazy little guy.... It was good to get the old sand and reptile carpet out...it was getting kind of yucky. With pellets it'll be easier to clean in the future too I think.

Usually at feedingtime the food (both veggies and live stuff) starts at the cool end of the tank. On the basking side is an undertank heater that keeps the substrate at around 85 degrees or so and extends just a bit past the little hide. The UV light is in the back and the basking side light is a 150W Reptile light with a reflector so it keeps it from 85 degrees on the ground to around 95 - 100 degrees up top. The cool side is kept relatively warm by a 100W standard GE lightbulb. It keeps the temp there around 77 - 83 degrees depending on the ambient temp of the apartment. All the lights are on a timer with the heat lights going out first and the UV light going out about 30 min. later so I don't shock the little guy. During the middle of the day he's usually found underneath the wood piece just chilling out and digesting :).

Few minutes after our nightly taming session with a towel. He was NOT happy....but he did lick some baby food carrots off the spoon...it's a start right?

After I put him back, he looked very resentful at me. You can kind of see the beard in the second picture that gives this lizard it's name. I don't know if he was angry at being held or angry at being let go... Oh well, he might as well get used to it. It's gonna happen every night! :)

A big flattened out look. Finally relieved at being let go back in his cage...

Rock climbing on the cool side of the tank. You can see those nasty long claws pretty well in this shot. Those tend to hurt a bit....

...of all the ways to fall asleep. Yes. He's sleeping in this picture. And I thought I had some odd sleeping habits! :)

Now THAT'S relaxed. Freaked me out when I first saw him do it. He just looked at me like, "...WHAT? I'm relaxed! Leave me alone!" ...it's amazing his limbs never fall asleep like that...

And now he found a new place to sleep :)

Bath Time!!! Didn't seem to mind once he got in too. ...getting him TO the bath and out is another matter alltogether....

...guess he wasn't too hungry. A rare site indeed....and the cricket can't even move that quick because of the missing leg. :)

Finally...a typical meal for Fuzzy. A nice rock full of heathy green veggies and either crickets running around in his tank or these nasty superworms all nicely dusted with calcium. ....yum....
