Photo A Day 2010 – 06/30/2010

It’s the first 2 shots from the Bronica ETR medium format camera. You can’t tell here but the negative is about 4x the size of a standard 35mm and when I scanned it came out to be about a 35 megapixel image. It’s biiiig. So it lets me do these types of effects without losing as much image info. It’s Cleveland shot from Edgewater Park :) Oh, and obviously heavily edited. Shot on Kodak TMAX 100 120 size film.

This is a straight scan of the negative, no editing. Shot with a 50mm lens (which on a medium format is a wide angle) at around f/8 at 1/500 second. It’s the rides at Crocker Park for the 4th. I took a similar photo last year. And the rides look just as dangerous and a death trap as it did last year… Yes yes, I’m sure it’s safe but…yeah…I guess when I was a kid I didn’t see it that way…

Shots from today’s walk around Bradley Park looking at all the giant trees that fell down during the storm on Sunday is currently hanging and drying in the kitchen :)

This was that freaky orange/yellow sky with the rainbow while raining during that nasty storm on Sunday. This is how bright it was at like 9pm. Weird.

My film from the medium format camera is still drying so here are some more shots from Blue Ridge Farm from last Thursday. This is Sarah prepping the horse. All shot with the Leica M6.

And more big sky farm scenery. Can’t you just SMELL it?? :)

Say hello to the Zenza Bronica ETR medium format camera. Well…say hello to TWO of them! And 4 lenses. And 4 film backs. And a waist level finder. And a prism finder. And a swivel head finder. Aaaaa!! I know I know. I just got the Leica. But I saw this on Craigslist for what is literally a ridiculously low price and I couldn’t say no. It would have been a crime to say no. Great condition. The guy bought it in 1976. My first roll of film is drying right now. WOOOO. :)

This is it though. I now have an automatic SLR film camera, a manual SLR film camera (currently being repaired in Tokyo), 2 range finders, and now a medium format camera. No more. I swear. Well…until Canon releases the next iteration of the 5D MkII. Then it will be time to upgrade my 50D to full frame. But until then? No more cameras. Well…at least no more pro cameras.

…I will probably regret this…

:D

Photoshoot with kids this morning! It was at Crocker Park at 9am. Worked pretty good since there was no one around then so I didn’t have to time the shots at all to avoid people. Started with the big chairs by the Apple Store and then moved on to the fountain and the big chess pieces by the Cheesecake Factory. As usual having the kids actually LOOK at the camera was a challenge… But, well…that’s kids for you :)

These are the 4 previews of the 4 kids!

Sabrina’s always a cutie. Oh, and a cameo of Valerie…you can see the top of her head :)

Maegen was just as cute.

Alex…well…he was the goof ball. Barely looked at me. This was a miracle!

He looks so studious :)

Now…I have a lot of photos to go through in a week… Yikes.

All digital today folks. Been a while huh?

:)

Finally finished photos of Stephanie’s kids and her niece, Paige, that I took at Lakewood Park about a month ago. I think this is my favorite :)

Also took pics for Molly at the Lakewood Farmer’s Market. Today was the first day and I think it’s off to a good start! About 7 or so stands but had a decent amount of visitors! Everyone should go (who live in the Cleveland area that is)! Saturdays from 10 to 1 at the strip mall by Detroit and Warren!!

The Lakewood Farmer’s Market had some musicians too playing some Irish music. This is the first time I’ve seen an Irish bagpipe. The sound is much MUCH nicer than the Scottish one and you don’t blow into it but use the bellows. Very interesting.

I thought you guys might be getting tired of the steady stream of film scans and you might want something with a bit more pop.

So. Here is an image taken on Fuji Superia Premium 400 scanned and then digitally manipulated with Photoshop and textured. Cool eh? Maybe?

Then back to film. Still working out the quirks with the Leica M6. But these turned out nice. :)

I like this photo of her riding helmet.

This here is a photo of a 3.5 year old who is getting awfully tired of having a camera pointed at her face… :)

Taking a break from film scans. Dinner from yesterday courtesy of Ioana. Chicken liver and onions. Home cooking from Romania but with her own touch and it was yuuuuummy. And really filling too. Awesome.

See. To me, this already is drool inducing. Bed of caramelized onions with garlic, jalapeƱo peppers, olive oil, pepper infused olive oil, and other stuff. Mmmmm.

And soon, with some love, this becomes a damn good meal!

We’ll go back to film really really soon :) Especially since I’m working on getting the feel of the Leica M6′s exposure meter.

First shots with the Leica M6 shot on T-Max 100 now that the film has been developed and flattened. In retrospect, I should have chosen a better subject and not shot with the lens wide open… Oh well. Anyway, went back to Lakeview Cemetery to revisit some of the statues I didn’t get to shoot before. This, however, is the Corner Angel :)

She looked so peaceful…

And she just seemed like she was sitting around looking off into the afternoon sun. Almost seemed alive. Very skillful carvings there.

Oh, and a shot of the President Garfield Memorial. This is shot around f/5.6-ish so yes, the M6 focuses well and the 35mm Summilux is nice and sharp when it wants to be.

Tomorrow? Horses!!

I…I got it. The Leica M6. Arguably the greatest film rangefinder ever made (well…maybe besides the Leica MP).

And to anyone who knows anything about the Leica M series and are about to yell at me for spending so much…this was an amazing bargain. The camera has some pretty major cosmetic damage due to some schmuck trying to rub the black paint off of the metal parts…so it was only 3 figures!! A Leica M6 for 3 figures!!!! I…I just couldn’t say no. My first roll of film is currently hanging up to dry :)

Had a long conference call tonight so this is it. Refreshing isn’t it? It’s an “old school digital photo with an off camera flash”!! Ha. Different than my usual “available light film scan” huh? :)

MMMM…Schnitzel Haus in Parma. It was deeeelicious. I wanted to age the photo a bit since…well…it’s Parma and it kinda fits the look :) Went there with my friend Ioana and it was a nice dinner out on the patio. The portions are ridiculous…but goddamn it was good. I didn’t try the saur kraut though… Next time…next time…

I love their pretzels. I love the cheezy pretzel boats. They are all awesome.

Hey look, it’s me! I want to photograph the back alley of the West Side Market but I just can’t seem to get a good angle / vision… Must keep trying…

Once again you may be tired of the black and white… BUT, my Leica M6 comes in tomorrow!! WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO!!! So expect more film shots. Oh yes. I have gone off the deep end…

:)
