Project (by) 8pm – 05/30/2009

Today I went out to photograph our company sponsored 5K race. A really good turnout and it was a beautiful day too. Got some decent shots. Got to play with the new 70-200mm lens which was cool.

Tomorrow at the butt crack of dawn I’m off to Japan for 2 weeks so no big DSLR fun for a while. Booo….

Anyway, today’s photo is from the race. Everyone getting ready at the line :)

Most likely my next update will be from Japan :)

Yup…another wet dreary day… Kinda humid. Torrential downpour in the afternoon. Just an overall “blah” day. So today’s photos are very similar to yesterdays. Since…well…it’s a similar day.

I don’t care about the Cavs…tonight I plan on going to bed at a reasonable hour… Damn insominia… DAAAMN YOOOUUUU….

*sigh*

Today was just a wet and dreary day. Just sort of draining. Tiring… Blah.

Even the tree outside my garage looked tired in the rain…

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in Wide Angle

The best thing about The Met is they allow photographs. No flashes though. But otherwise it’s ok. And this gave me a wonderful opportunity, not just to look at some of the greatest artwork from all over the world, but also to really get some nice shots of some of the interior. Sure there are people in almost all the photos but, I think the wide angle lens really gives you the sense of scale. This museum is BIG.

Also a quick techie note. Just like with the shot of the Great Hall that I posted the other day, all of these were taken with the Canon 10-22mm ultra wide angle lens on the Canon 50D. Most, excluding the outdoor shot and the armory and the atrium, were shot at around ISO 1000 to ISO 1600. All handheld as tripods are not allowed. Some tweaking was done for exposure and contrast as well as some vignetting for a nice effect. However, I didn’t want to mess with how The Met wanted to present its museum to the public so nothing will be removed from the shot including people and that bright red exit sign that you’ll see in one of the shots below…

As usual, click on the photos for an even bigger shot. You can also go to http://photos.timarai.com and you will find this gallery under the “Vacations” section (or in the Featured Galleries) where you can, if you want, download the full size image.

Theresa and Phil’s Wedding Photos

The wedding reception I attended in NYC :) The main reason why I was there!

These are the first few pics. Not sure if I’ll have much more though. Lighting was a bit rough and I didn’t bring my flash (…I already had 2 lenses and I really didn’t want to deal with the bulk…besides, I’m not their photog!!) soooo these are a few of the good ones. If I didn’t get you…sorry…

Oh, and there will be food posts too but even those are a bit iffy soooo not sure when they will come.

Anyway, here’s the happy happy couple!! Click the image for a larger version and for the rest click on the link after the pic!

The new stuff from B&H. Had a bit of trouble mounting the ball head so I had to wait until I got home today since I needed some tools. But all set now! Gitzo carbon fiber tripod and ball head. The camera also has the remote flash transmitter attached just for the photo. The tripod is great. Ultra light and with the legs fully extended, almost too tall for me. :)

Project (by) 8pm – 05/24/2009

Today was a full day… Late start (aka 10am) and then headed out to Grand Central Station to take a few pics, go to Time’s Square because…well…I’m in NYC so I felt obligated to…which is stupid because that place was insane. It’s bad enough as it is but during Memorial Day weekend? Ridiculous. I should have stayed away. Then went down to Union Square, hit up the Virgin store that was going out of business (everything 30% off!) and then Forbidden Planet, a pretty big comic book store with a bunch of friends. Hit up B&H photo store and spent waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much money (an awesome travel size carbon fiber ultra light tripod and a ball head along with a remote flash transmitter and a remote shutter switch…woo). Dinner at Delta Grill (Shrimp Creole was awesome). Then I took a cab back to the hotel. Leaving tomorrow on a 10am flight.

Full day.

Now, watching the Cavs :)

Anyway, so here’s a shot from Grand Central Station, once again with the ultrawide :)

Project (by) 8pm – 05/23/2009

Just got back from the wedding.

It was very very nice. Chinese 9 course dinner as well! And it was the first time the woman running the wedding was bilingual and spoke everything in both English and Chinese :)

Anyway, lots of photos are coming. Also went out to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and it was AWESOME. I have to come back. No question asked. I only got to see the first floor and even that not so completely and I only had an hour or so on the second floor and that’s where all the old master’s works are! Monet, Cessane, Renoir, Pissarro!!! I need more time! Looks like another weekend trip to NYC is coming in the very very very near future!

So, until I get the Met photos as well as the wedding photos up, here is the photo of the day.

This is The Great Hall at the Metropolitan Museum of Art from the 2nd floor balcony. Taken at 10mm with the ultra wideangle lens, I looooove shots like this :)
