Finally found some Japanese style curry. I was bummed yesterday when I bought all the ingredients but couldn’t find the curry roux. Today I asked around and J at work told me about an Asian supermarket about 20 minutes away so I headed over there (the name is “Nee How”…yes…it’s spelled wrong and just plan cheesy…oh well). The store didn’t have much but they had the curry!! WOOO!

This is Japanese style curry so it does not include coconut milk and such. It’s a far more creamier curry than the traditional Indian curry. Not as spicy but for anyone who has lived in Japan, grew up in Japan, or like me, grown up in a Japanese household, this is comfort food of the best kind.

Otherwise known as “Watching the Penguins do SOOOO Good until the 3rd Period”….

Oh. Dear. God….

They were doing so good. SO GOOD!!! And then came the 3rd period, the Wings did a line change, and it was like a totally different team as they proceeded to steamroll over the Penguins… Took over 11:30 minutes into the 3rd period for the Penguins to even get a single shot on goal while the Wings scored twice… Painful I tell you…painful.

But at the same time it was nice. It’s been a while since I’ve watched hockey on TV. What with the strike and then the total lack of coverage and the plunging popularity and so on and so forth, it was hard to catch a good game or two. But they are televising the Stanley Cup finals on NBC! So I get to watch it in HD! And I have to say, I’ve seen NHL games in person both from nose-bleed seats and from just 4 rows from the ice and I’ve watched it on standard def TV but…man…HD makes a buttload of difference! You can see so much of the ice at once and you can really see the plays and the positioning and…in this games case…gets you more frustrated watching…

Anyway, in the style of a friend on a different blog that’s doing a “picture a day”, here is my view of the game in the 3rd period.

Of course…I have my laptop open. Yes…that’s work e-mail up…and yes, that’s my blackberry to the right too. I missed the first and second period due to a long long conference call with Japan…and I was still working well into the 3rd period but at least in front of the TV going “aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah” as the Wings scored…

Sometimes I really really wish I had a 9 to 5 job. Just sometimes…

Oh. On a different note. I could NOT find Japanese style curry tonight! I wanted to make curry tonight! Even bought all the ingredients but when I went looking for the curry blocks (it’s condensed) I couldn’t find it anywhere…not by the Asian foods, not by the soups, not by the spices. Blah…. Maybe tomorrow I’ll find it…

Edit: OH MY GOD…they just scored to tie it up with 34.3 seconds left in the game!!!!!!
