Disney Day #1

So…it’s almost 1am so I need to get to sleep so this will be quick.

I have survived day 1 of my foray into den of evil that is Disney World. And so far so good.

We bought 2 days worth of parkhopper passes and parked at the Magic Kingdom and went to Epcot first. There we bought a Fast Pass for Soaring and went on Mission: Space (with Gary Sinese!…though everytime I see him I always think “hey…Lt. Dan is doing pretty good these days!”…) which was quite fun and impressive actually. Then we went to the Nemo thing which was a pretty neat aquarium and got to see some dolphins being trained too. From there it was off to experience Soaring which was also quite impressive.

From there it was on to the World Showcase for lunch. It was actually quite funny to see the reaction of native Japanese people when we went to the Japan pavilion. They kinda looked at it and went “…so…THIS is Japan? You’re kidding me….” Ah well…my annoyance has been justified. But we did go into the gift store. And ahhh…the sign of the times. Back in 1990 or so when I was there last, it was a bunch of samurai and ninja stuff with some ramen noodles and candy thrown in. Today? Hello Kitty and anime figures galore! Eeeeeeesh….

But we eventually went to the restaurant at the Morocco exhibit. They all enjoyed the food (I was a bit worried…) and we even got to see some belly dancing :) My chicken cous cous was deeeeeeelicious.

From there, we moved on to MGM actually to catch the Indiana Jones stunt thing that one the guys wanted to see. From there we split up and me and one of the girls went on the Star Wars ride (surprisingly she was a SW fan) while the other 2 went on a roller coaster. Once we met up, we THEN moved on back to the Magic Kingdom where after taking some pictures, they rode on Big Thunder Mountain while I rested my feet. From there we grabed a bite to eat (pretzels and such…we weren’t too hungry) and got ready for the light parade.

While waiting a biiiig thunder cloud was moving towards us and it was flashing lightening and everything…but oddly…when the parade started, the thunder stopped. What the hell? I’m telling you…Disney is dealing with some kind of black magic…

Anyway, after the parade, we stuck around to watch the fireworks (impressive) and then eventually made our way back home.

It was a looooooooooooooong day.

Tomorrow, the couple will go to Animal Kingdom while me and the other girl plan on hitting up Epcot again to see some of the stuff we missed before. We’ll probably meet up with the other two near the end of the day at Epcot to see their fireworks.

It was hot….really frickin’ hot… Hoping tomorrow is better…and it won’t be…but I can hope.

Pictures coming soon. Just need to get their permission tomorrow to post their pics along with mine :)

Now time for bed.
