Kyoto Post #3 - Kiyomizudera

Yup. Finally. Post #3.

This time it’s the famous temple in Kyoto called Kiyomizu-dera. Many of you have probably seen the picture of a big temple with a biiig balcony hanging over a cliff. This is the place.

Of course, with it being spring break in Japan AND the cherry blossoms are out in full bloom, needless to say it was incredibly crowded. But the balcony held (thankfully….) and I was able to take some pretty nice pictures so feel free to take a look!

To get to the temple it’s a bit of a hike uphill. I mean, we’re pretty high up to begin with and there’s only one way up…by foot. You can take a bus part of the way there but we ended up walking all the way from the bottom. But it was certainly worth it.

Here’s a look back down the hill.

And here’s some shots of the always beautiful cherry blossoms.

Some very beautiful architecture once again.

Of course, once you get up to the balcony level, you get some amazing views of the nearby hills and the woods. In the next picture, you can kinda see a pagoda peeking up from the trees.

Another view.

And a shot of the hills behind the temple.

And here is a shot of one of the balconies.

Did I say it was crowded??

And here is the balcony where I was taking the previous pictures from. It doesn’t look that crowded when you’re as far away as I was but trust me…it was pretty damn crowded down there too….

One more nice pic of the main pagoda.

A final shot of the city of Kyoto from the balcony of Kiyomizu-dera.

I will try to get the final Kyoto post up before the weekend. Will try….really….

Hope you enjoyed the pictures!
