Japanese TV

Gotta love it.

There’s a show that takes weird questions and puts them to the test.

This time the question was “if you put your wet landry on the outside of a figher jet, will it dry?”

Yeah…it’s a serious question.

So right now I’m watching 2 guys go all the way to S. Africa where they give you rides on fighter jets and they just tied on a soaking wet T-shirt on the back of a figher jet.

A 10 minute trip including take off, getting close to Mach 1, and doing some pretty cool barrel rolls and such all set to the music of Danger Zone from Top Gun (copyright laws here in terms of what music they can play on TV shows seems different than in the US…).

They just got off the plane.

And the answer is????

…a commercial….

Hold please…

Personally I think the t-shirt is going to be shredded. It was tied on the bottom near the back of the plane and it was flapping like crazy.

And I was right.

TOTALLY SHREDDED. But it was dry :) But yeah…there’s barely any fabric left.

Ha.

But yes…it’s funny. And different. But yeah…this style of TV probably won’t work in the US.

Ooooh, and Berlin’s Every Breath You Take as an outro. I like that song. Hell, the entire sountrack was awesome. But I digress.

Once again, Tim has no self control…

But it’s not like I’m breaking into banks or anything.

But yeah…no self control. Especially when I’m in Japan. I think it’s because I’m not home and I’m here alone so my habit of “shopping when stressed” comes out in full force.

But anyway, this is mainly my Sunday here.

Late start and then moved onto Akihabara for some early shopping to beat the rush. Hit up a few stores that I frequent and by the time I was done they had the street blocked off and was doing a little street performance festival. Sadly (or maybe it’s a good thing?), the days of maid girls walking around and girls dressed up in all different costumes are over in Akihabara. Well, at least for now. Who knows when it’ll make a comeback since, after all, the maid cafes are still around.

Of course due to this, the few maid girls infront of the station get mobbed by guys taking pictures. They’re SUPPOSED to be handing out flyers but they’re too busy posing. I personally wouldn’t care except they’re blocking the station entrance… Dammit…

Oh, and no…no pictures this time. My camera ran out of batteries :( Not that I would join in on the crowd taking pictures or anything…. *ahem*…

But what was I saying…oh yeah…street performance. Basically we had some martial artist couple, a tap dancing couple, a dude flinging those tops in the air with string and such (think Cirque Du Soleil). Pretty fun actually though the wind was playing havoc with some of the entertainers.

In between I had lunch at the curry place that I always go to and the pita too. Yum.

But about the whole, no self control thing….I walked into Kotobukiya, the store for figure finatics, and what do I see? The new Final Fantasy Mechanical Arts collection. It came out about a month ago in Japan and they still had stock. It’s supposed to come out in the US this month but…well…who knows since it’s just not as popular in the US as it is here. They had machines like the Highwind airship from FFVII, the airship from FFX, but they also had the 2 motorcycles from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. One for Kadaj and the other for Cloud. Needless to say, my eyes were instantly drawn to Fenrir, the motorcycle for Cloud.

It’s only about 12″ but the detail….oh the detail… So…cool…

I will take pictures later but here’s a pic from the Final Fantasy sight.

*droooooooooool*

So yeah…I picked it up. Eh heh heh. Nooooo self control.

Of course, then I moved on to Yodobashi Camera and what do I see? A 1/20 scale ultra detailed Tachikoma figure. Oh man.

Ultra detailed, fully poseable. And $80…. But but but..it’s ONLY $80….

I mean, LOOK at this thing!!

We’ll see if I can hold out not buying this for 3 weeks. Anyone wanna take bets? But let’s be honest. I won’t be able to…. But I did resist. If in 2 weeks it sells out…well…maybe then it’ll be a good thing. :)

You know what’s odd though? For the Fenrir bike, I took a look at eBay and there were people selling this for cheaper than what you would pay in Japan! …how can this be? Granted, many of these were from Hong Kong but…how do they make any money off of this? Some are selling it significantly cheaper!!!

Weird…. But at least for me, I got a real one as opposed to a potential knockoff. It’s so sexy…I really really is… The pic above doesn’t do it justice!

Well, time for some work. Gotta get ready for the meeting tomorrow at Microsoft. I’ve told other people before…for some reason, I was perfectly fine getting out in front of 100 or even 200+ people in a suit with a microphone and giving a presentation in Japanese with very little preparation… But for some reason, doing a demo of our software in a small room with maybe just a few Microsoft people fills me with nervous dread….

I’m sure I’ll be ok but…still… If I wasn’t flying solo, it’ll probably be better. And better yet, if I knew EXACTLY what I needed to show them, that’ll be even better. But they were just like “can you come and spend an hour and a half and give us a demo?”…and that was it. I think it’s the unknown that’s making me somewhat nervous.

Oh well…I’m sure it’ll be fine. Just gotta find that map so I know where to go…
