The last time I went was back in January I think. I don’t really think it’s the healthiest of foods but goddammit is it tasty.
Today, I managed to get 7 other friends/coworkers interested so we went to Tom’s Seafood in Cleveland for some dim sum. It was a new place for us so I was kinda hesitant but it came with good recommendations so I decided to give it a try.
It’s not a seafood restaurant during the afternoon on weekends. They do traditional dim sum but the difference is, here, rather than pricing it a plate at a time, it’s $7.99 a person and it’s all you can eat. Wooo. In all honesty, at first I was hesitant though. It seemed too cheap so I thought either the food wasn’t up to snuff or the selection was lacking. Thankfully it wasn’t really the case.
The food was prepared very well. No complaints there at all. They had the standard stuff but alas, there were a few things missing. The sticky rice wrapped in leaves never made an appearance. Pot stickers came once and turnip cakes came right at the end. But the food itself was delicious. However, I was glad I decided to meet there at 11:30 as opposed to 12 because by that point in time the restaurant was PACKED. Once it got crowded, the food started to come slower so there were a few times where the table was emptied out. Also, you’re kind of at the mercy of the carts of food as there’s no real way to order specific dishes unless you could speak Chinese as there are no menus and in all honesty, I didn’t really see anyone doing that either.
But yeah…it was good. It was filling and tasty and it was a good time. I’m glad I got to do this before I leave for Japan for 3 weeks next Friday. And for anyone reading this in the Cleveland area, I recommend Tom’s Seafood. C&Y is good too as is Li Wah. Hell, try all 3 and see what you like!
