Random Stuff – Odd Search Terms and Expensive Soap

Yup. Random stuff. No pictures. Too lazy. I mean…I’ll have to open up my backpack, pull out my laptop for work where I happened to put the pictures on, boot up, log on, find the pics, start up Paint Shop Pro, clean it up, resize it, upload it, and then write the post.

Yeah…see? Too much work.

Anyway, onto the first part.

On this blog just for fun I loaded up a simple little plugin that not only tracks hits to my blog but also the number of visitors, their IP addresses and, this is the key, the web site that they came from and if they used a search string, what the search string was. Yes…right now I am tracking you. Muwahahahahahaha.

*ahem*…sorry…

Now, recently my blog has been linked to by a few other blogs such as Road Gladiator and Plastic Bamboo so that has upped the visit count considerably. That combined with search bots from Google, MSN, Yahoo, and even Technorati, my blog gets a decent amount of traffic. So far my peak was yesterday (03/06) with 341 hits and 110 actual visits to my blog and today, so far, I have had 134 hits and 74 visits.

Of course, this also means I get a tremendous amount of comment spam. I mean…A LOT. In the past 15 days I have had 116 comment spams caught by Akismet. Every once in a while one will slip by but it’s one of the better blog spam blockers I have found. Everything from “cheap expensive watches” to Viagara and the like all the way to pure uncensored porn ads. Some are interesting though, like one was for a flower delivery place and another for cheap furniture.

But anyway, I digress. The best part of the blog statistic plugin are the search strings that people used to find my blog. And frankly some are just frickin’ weird.

Here they are in the order of popularity (aka, the most searched for) and some explanations if I can even think of any…

1. anime guys

2. wikipedia, tantakatan – This I can actually explain as Tantakatan is the name of the shiso (beefsteak leaves) flavored sho-chu (Japanese “vodka”) that I wrote about a few weeks back. Guess I’m not the only fan :)

3. Eat Sasame seeds.com – ..um…huh??? Oh..and that is how the person spelled “sesame”. Oops.

4. flavored alcohol

5. goldfish scooping – Popular game during summer festivals in Japan. …god I hope this isn’t some dirty euphemism that I don’t know about…

6. hello kitty desktop

7. how do you say go to the bathroom in japanese – yes…this is the entire search string…eeesh…

8. phantom vibration syndrome – I wrote about this a few months back…god I hope it was someone looking for that post that saw it before and not just pure random chance…

9. pictures of mcdonalds in japan and tokyo – “In Japan AND Tokyo”??? Isn’t Tokyo IN Japan??

10. sephiroth and cloud doujinshi – it was ok until I saw “doujinshi”…someone was potentially searching for “boys love” fan made manga between Cloud and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII and found my site…ew…

This is only after 3 days too. I can only wonder what other search terms others will use to find my blog.

*sigh*

On a totally different note…is it a bad thing that I got excited today at work when my soap came in the mail? Not just any soap. Soap from Lush. Mmmm. Ridiculously expensive gourmet handmade soap.

Hey…this is about as “metro” as I would EVER get ok? But I blame F for taking me into Lush when we were in San Francisco. This stuff is niiiice. I got myself some Sea Vegetable Soap. Smells really nice and leaves me squeaky clean. Not all slimy and nasty like the “conditioning soaps” do. Ugh. I don’t want to feel like there’s a thin invisible film of slime on me when I get out of the shower thankyou…

But really. It’s nice. You should all check it out. Though I will admit…$7.30 for 3.5oz is a bit much. But they have different smells. Even ones that smell like patchouli if you just can’t graduate from smelling like a college hippie wannabe (^_^) Ew ew ew…. Unfortunately these soaps all get used up real quick. It’s not like the super dense bar soaps like Dial. A chunk will probably last you a month or so but not much more. Now I know why F told me she had an expensive soap habit…

Well anyway, I was happy. So there. Mmm…can’t wait to take my shower tomorrow morning.

I know that was something you all wanted to know.

Now to go back watching past episodes of CSI in HD. Ooooh. TV shows in HD! Goddamn I love my TV… Too bad next Friday I’m gone in Japan for 3 weeks. I’ll miss you TV *sniff*…

Oh, and that reminds me…if you want anything, let me know. Well…if I know you that is. Not if you found this post searching for, oh, I don’t know, “japan sasame want anything CSI” :)
