Humid tour day
…tired….
It was cloudy and humid today. Really frickin’ humid. Sweaty humid. Ugh…..
And I realized that I really don’t know how to do a Tokyo Tour for kids. I mean…I can do my standard stuff but it’s easier with adults. In hindsight I should have done Ueno and the museums and the zoo and stuff. But at the same time they will be on their own with their mom Monday through Wednesday so I’ll leave that up to them for later I guess.
So today I did the stuff that they probably wouldn’t do unless they go with someone who knows the area well.
We met up at their hotel and first got them umbrellas. Of course even though the weather report said rain rain rain and it DID pour this morning, it didn’t rain the rest of the day. Oh well. At least they have umbrellas now for the rest of their trip.
Went to Asakusa temple as usual and did some shopping and sightseeing there. Then went on to Akihabara were we went to Yodobashi Camera, that huuuuuge electronics store, and then had lunch at a curry joint. I was happy to find out that they liked it. I was worried there for a bit.
We then started to walk around the town but I realized then that this was PROBABLY not the best place for the kiddies. Granted the older one is 14 and the younger is 12…seeing the girls all dressed up in French Maid outfits was hard to describe…. That and on the way back we went through some of the back roads and, even though most of the stores are fine, I forgot that there are the occasional stands selling uncensored Japanese porn….out in the open…oops. I don’t think they saw it though. I don’t think…..
We then found out that the kids and their mom might not be so hot about climbing Mt. Fuji this trip… Ha. We’ll see.
We then moved on to Shinjuku to go to the top of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. Though the view was not as impressive as it was hazy from the humidity, I still enjoy seeing the sprawl that is Tokyo. The response was generally underwhelming though…..not sure if it was from just being tired out from all the walking or if stuff like this just isn’t for kids anymore.
I always liked stuff like this, even as a kid but that might be because I was a bit different… Don’t know.
Either way, I dropped them off at the hotel to rest up and they are supposed to start heading towards my hotel (I am in Kawasaki, they are in Shinagawa) around 7 for dinner. Not sure where to take them but at least here in Kawasaki there are tons of options.
I am generally just beat…. I think it was the combination of the heat, the humidity, the crowd, (though those 3 I can handle) and trying to keep the 4 of them from getting lost… Or more importantly me losing sight of them. They were well behaved but with it being Sunday it’s crowded EVERYWHERE so I think I just got tired from nerves..
Anyway, I will post pictures later. Nothing too new. But we’ll see.
It’s gonna be a loooong few days…
