More Akihabara Girls
Yes, the girls are still around. Of course, as the
weather gets warmer and warmer, I'm afraid that this will continue.
There was actually a newsreport on while I was in Japan this time
saying that the whole "Maid" thing is changing Akihabara.
Basically, this place used to be the mecca of electronics.
Then it started to change and became the place to be for all
nerds and geeks :) Electronics were still around but now there
are more places selling video games and anime/manga producs.
But soon, this whole maid-fetish took over. Akihabara has become
not a place where a geek can be a geek (like me) but a place for
tourists (also like me) as well. And of course, where there are
tourists, there will be attractions to try to get your money.
Thus, all the girls who worked at the maid cafes and such started
to come out and hand out fliers for their businesses in full costume.
This, combined with the fact that they close off the main street on
Sundays, is changing what this section of Tokyo used to be like.
Now you see hundreds of tourists snapping pictures of girls in
maid and other outfits and they also are working it for the camera.
Many of them also handing out fliers and such for themselves
saying that they are trying to make a living as a cosplay model and
such.
(note the crowd.....)
But enough talk. On to the show! (I should make this a monthly feature...)
